Calahonda is especially popular with those who like to get tanned on the beach and golf lovers. The urbanisation features approximately 27 kilometres of coastline with a total of 24 wonderful beaches. In addition to lazing in the sun all day you also have the possibility to practise water sports. On the Calahonda beaches you will find jet-skies and facilities for sailing, balloon flights or cable skiing. After an exhausting ride or a long day in the sun one can enjoy fresh and delicious seafood that is offered along the coast from Calahonda to Marbella.
Jet skies or water bikes can be hired at water sport centres as well as from bars. To ensure your safety it is obligatory to wear a life jacket at all times. Life guards are also often provided. One of the centres we recommend is the one in San Pedro de Alcantara. The Parque de las Medanas is ideal especially for those with little or no experience in jet skiing. Another great place to go is the Niiki Beach, a private beach club with restaurants, bars, go kart, facilities for children and of course also water sports. Parasailing is also offered here and a must for everyone who would like to see the cost from a birds-eye view.
At the Atalaya Park Hotel you will find great facilities for divers and everyone who is fascinated by a magnificent underwater-world. In addition you will also be able to enjoy spectacular views of Gibraltar and sometimes - on clear days - even the north coast of Africa. The Happy Divers Club is available for divers with all levels of experience, from beginners to professionals. Once under the water you will be trapped by the beauty of the maritime life. Beautiful underwater landscapes with numerous types of fish (sea slugs, conga eels, groupers, dolphins, etc.) as well as ancient ship wrecks and corals can be found.
Another point of interest that should not be missed is of course Marbellas fashionable and luxury port Puerto Banus. Impressive yachts, elegant restaurants, expensive shops and the high society of the Costa del Sol is what await you when driving along the Golden Mile towards the marina.
Families with children will also have a wide range of things to do to choose from. We start off with the Agua Parks in Mijas and Fuengirola where wave pools, water slides, an adventure river and much more is on offer. To learn more about the sea and what can be found in it we recommend the Sea Life Centre in the beautiful marina of Benalmadena. With more than 100 different species and a glass tunnel in which one can watch sharks, the Sea Life Centre is definitely worth a visit.
Furthermore Calahonda and the region surrounding it feature numerous golf courses, bars, clubs, shopping facilities and outdoor sports. Horse riding, trekking, cycling and much more is offered for outdoor fans and nature lovers.
