Calahonda Beaches

The season for sunbathing and swimming begins as early as late May and continues until late September. While tourists often already are brave enough to go into the sea in the beginning of May, locals prefer to wait a little longer until the water reaches around 20 degree. Along the beaches you will find the famous Chiringuitos which are beach bars serving drinks and snacks. Some even provide waiter service on the beach so you do not even have to get up. Around this time of the year the water sports facilities are being prepared for the season.

The busiest months are without doubt July, August and September when not only tourist from different countries enjoy the beach but also holiday makers from Madrid and other inland cities come to laze in the sunshine and go for a swim. Even during the winter months it is sometimes possible to sunbathe, should you be lucky enough to catch a day without wind and blue sky. But generally the beach belongs to joggers, walkers and fishermen.

Calahonda Beaches

Unlike in other countries Spain does not have private beaches, which enables you to walk along the entire coast – if you would wish so. To ensure that the beach stays the way it is and does not get ruined by buildings, recent laws prohibit building constructions too close to the coast.

Along the entire cost of the Costa del Sol you will find wonderful light and sandy beaches which invite you to lie down and get tanned. Whether you are in Malaga, Marbella or Calahonda, you will be guaranteed to find a number of beaches to choose from. In most places you will find Chiringuitos, bars and restaurants offering not only refreshing drinks but also delicious seafood.

One of the beaches in the area is the one stretching from Calahonda to Puerto Cabopino. Another one is the one leading to Marbella. On the way there you will find the Artola dunes as well as a natural park and a Moorish tower which is used as a view point.

Puerto Cabopino itself is very popular with those wanting to enjoy the sun as it has not only bars and restaurants but also lifeguards. The beach that goes to Marbella is popular with nudists as there is a nudist beach available which is surrounded by nature, flowers and wild plants. It is a very quiet area where sun worshippers can relax – away from traffic and the crowds.
